The original version of Daxter for the PS1 came out in 2001. The PSN version takes place ten years later at the same time as Jak 2. If you own the original, then the only mandatory part of the download is the first seven chapters of the game, which are slightly different depending on whether you own Jak 2 or not. Upgrading the game is easy, though, as you'll be downloading the single most important DLC content for the game, so make sure you have a PSP memory card fully dedicated to the game before you go about the update. Be warned that you will need a PSP memory card with at least 512 MB worth of space for this version of Daxter.
Daxter's got guns, lasers and other badass toys at his disposal, and Ready at Dawn has made the most of the PSP's small screen with several explorable environments that are scaled up to fit the console's dimensions. Daxter's got 40 weapons, and it's up to you to decide which ones to level up and keep, making it a true RPG-lite experience. The game's interface isn't that easy to figure out, but the moveable HUD and simple AI make this the ideal role-playing game for the PSP. Unlike other PSP RPGs, Daxter requires absolutely no micromanagement of your party members during combat, so if you want to smash heads and pull off big combos, then the perfect role-playing game for the PSP is here.
What's bad: Daxter's charm is a double-edged sword at times, and without the help of the great humor of his best buddy, Jak, Daxter can be pretty annoying at times. On the whole, though, Daxter is an entertaining game that is worth playing even if you've never played an Jak & Daxter game before. On the surface, there's nothing wrong with Daxter, but if you're expecting a classic Jak & Daxter game from the PS2 era, you're gonna be disappointed. 827ec27edc
