Ibn Taymiyyah believed that the mutakallimun did not distinguish between the theology of time and the theology of eternity.[114]He felt that they equated time and eternity and temporarily rejected the eternal attributes of God, due to not believing in the existence of the divine attributes in the past and future.[114] Ibn Taymiyyah was hostile towards the mutakallimun for their innovation of rejecting the asceticism of the prophets and the rejection of Shari`a in favour of Ilm al-Kalam.[114] He believed that these were the most dangerous innovations that emerged in religion after the first three generations.[114] These, in turn, had an impact on conformity and clearness with the Islamic beliefs and culture.[114] He also criticised the rationalists for their ignorance of the original state of the Arabic tongue.[114] He believed that, when the mu`tazilites blamed their use of the Arabic language on the Hejazi and Qahtanite Arabs, they were in fact blaming them because of the state of the Arabs at the time of their arguments to hide ignorance of the original use of the Arabic language.[114] He believed that Arabs were the original people to speak Arabic but the Arabs have no claim to the Arabic language anymore because it was a language for the prophets and the chosen people.[114] He has also criticised the mutakallimun's views on the Arabic language saying that their rejection was due to an ignorance of the original Arabic language and he believed that Arabs used Arabic as an original language and not a dialect.[114] He also says that the language used in the Qur'an and hadiths is a form of Arabic which is distinctively known as Qur'anic Arabic and not dialectal Arabic.[114]

Ibn Taymiyyah also attacked the Ash`arites on the basis that the Ash`arites used reasoning that was similar to that of the philosophers.[114]He attacked the Ash'arite on the basis that their rationalistic theology led them to commit many theological and religious errors.
